What a Busy Month April was

Well what a month April was, starting With lots of collecting and delivering with our new van, one of our collections was…… were excited to say was from the Opera House in city centre Manchester and a very big thank you to all involved were Proud to add you to the growing list of Thoughtful company’s and groups we have worked with.

Recycling lives came over at the end of April and were really exited to announce that were going to be working together providing them with our plastics, metals, wires and other IT waste produced, this is a really great collaboration and certainly something that we at Recycle-IT have sought out for some time.

Recycling Lives work closely with many large and small companies that wish to improve their recycling percentages or to explore better environmental solutions. The activities that they carry out range from as simple as a litter collection day, to as extensive as a total warehouse clearance. Whatever the task, working with Recycling Lives will improve our Social Objectives

Recycling Lives- Working for You

their message is clear- they want opportunities for Residents to gain work experience and to create revenue for our Charity. They have a significant infrastructure supporting them and would like you to consider them for:

Site Cleaning – litter, wood, graffiti or general waste
Waste Removal – fly tipping clean-ups or skip filling and removal
Factory Clearance – scrap machinery, metal waste, pallets or shelving
Demolition and Dismantling – buildings, machinery or green houses
Painting – commercial or industrial painting, garage or warehouse floors

These are just some of there regular activities but if you have a need, Recycling Lives have a solution.

We’ve Gained The Social Enterprise Mark

We’re proud to announce our new status as SE Mark holders, this now means we are able to show a clear and recognizable mark both to new customers and the community as a whole that Recycle-IT are a genuine Social Enterprise here for the benefit of the community (C.I.C) and driven by Social and Environmental goals.

What is a Social Enterprise ?

The Government defines social enterprises as “businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners.”

As with all businesses, they compete to deliver goods and services. The difference is that social and environmental purposes are at the very heart of what they do, and the profits they make are reinvested towards achieving those purposes. Well known examples of social enterprises include the Eden Project, Big Issue and The Phone Co-op.

Social enterprises operate in almost every industry in the UK, from health and social care to renewable energy, from retail to recycling, from employment to sport, from housing to education. Whatever they do, they do it differently from typical business, because they are driven by a social and environmental mission, and they are focused on the community they serve. In a recent survey into social enterprise, 45% of respondents said that ‘putting something back into the community’ was their reason for setting up a social enterprise.

Amongst others holding the SE Mark are The Big Issue Group, Unlimited Potential, The Create foundation, Start in Salford, Social Enterprise Lancashire Network (SELNET), Social Enterprise Network, Social Enterprise Solutions, The Wellbeing Project, The Phone Co-op, Eden Project Ltd, Co-operative Group Limited, Blackburn House, Good Mood Food (Zion Centre), Joining communities, there are many, many more I’ve just jotted down some of he the members we’ve had contact with.

Were getting computers ready for Computer Aid International

Recently we have been working closely with Guinness Partnership, Witton High School (Blackburn) and The Cooperative group collecting and reusing a lot of their equipment, this means that we have a fairly large amount of computers and they are being made ready for the community to access.

We have been working with for many years now and are proud to be getting ready 200 computers for there next non for profit order from the developing countries

here is some more on Why reusing your computers and monitors is better than recycling them

Empirical research proves beyond doubt that when upgrading to the newest version, reusing computers is far better for the environment than recycling them. Reusing a computer is 20 times more effective at saving life cycle energy use than recycling it. Given the substantial environmental cost of production, it is imperative we recover the full productive value of every PC through reuse before eventually recycling it to recover parts and materials at its true end-of-life.

It is also essential that organisations and individuals ensure that their IT equipment is sent to a professional and legitimate re-furbisher, approved by the Environment Agency, to ensure that it is handled in a responsible way. Computer Aid only distributes computer equipment through responsible partner organisations that meet our stringent requirements.
